HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer AB Venkateswara Rao on Thursday approached the Central Administrative Tribunal challenging his suspension by the Andhra Pradesh government on February 8.
He urged the tribunal to set aside the order of suspension and to direct the government to release his salary and other benefits which are due from May, 2019.
Venkateswara Rao, in his affidavit, stated that immediately after the change in State government, he was issued orders relieving him from the post of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director General on May 30, 2019. On February 8, 2020, he was placed under suspension.
The government had invoked Rule 3 (1) of All India Service (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969 alleging that he was involved in the procurement of security equipment through tenders while he was an Additional DGP. This could not be a ground for suspension pending disciplinary proceedings, he added. The matter will come up for hearing on Friday.
